Overview
The RSS Widget displays the latest posts from any RSS-compliant feed, like blogs.
Setup
RSS Feed URL
Enter your RSS feed URL, which is often times the URL followed by /feed. So, for example, the feed URL for our ShortStack blog is https://www.shortstack.com/feed/. You can test the URL by pasting it into the address bar of your browser. If there are any errors, the feed will not work in the widget.
Number of Entries to Display
Use the drop-down menu to select the maximum number of articles the widget displays. You can choose to display between 1-50 articles.
Options
Display Type
Use the Display Type drop-down menu to choose between Content and Summary display. This controls what is shown along with the article. Since feeds implement these differently, we recommend experimenting with these settings to see which works best.
Content: Displays a styled version of the article.
Summary: Displays an excerpt of the article.
Refresh Data
ShortStack caches data for performance reasons. Use the drop-down menu to control how often ShortStack checks for new data.
Show Publish Date in This Time Zone
Select the time zone the article publish date/time is shown in.
Show Publish Date in This Format
Use the drop-down menu to select the Publish Date format.
Show entries in reverse order
By default, ShortStack displays articles in the same order as they appear in the feed. To reverse the order, check the Show entries in reverse order box.
Layout
Choose from one of the four pre-defined layouts, the Compact, Full Size, Wide (left-aligned photos), and Wide (right-aligned photos) layouts. The Full Size and Wide layouts offer a Collapse Long Text option. This option cuts off long sections of text at the specified height, allowing users to click to see the full text. You can specify a pixel height in the Max Text Height box. The default height is 150px when this option is selected.
