About Facebook Pages and Personal Accounts
Publishing a campaign to Facebook requires both a personal Facebook profile and a Facebook Page. A Facebook profile represents a single person — you. You create a Facebook profile by filling out the Sign Up form on the Facebook home page. Once you have an account, you can make connections with other people by asking to be their friend. Your Facebook profile is for information about you.
A Facebook Page (or Page for short) is for a business, band, celebrity, etc. These Pages interact with people who have "Liked" the Page. Pages do not have "friends" — they have Fans. A Fan is anyone who has clicked the Like button at the top of the Facebook Page.
To use ShortStack to publish campaigns to Facebook:
- You MUST have a personal Facebook profile.
- You MUST connect that personal Facebook profile to your ShortStack account.
- That personal Facebook profile MUST be an admin of the Page(s) to which you wish to publish campaigns.
Your personal profile and Page remain separate. You need to link your personal profile to your ShortStack account because Facebook designed its system for individuals to manage Pages with their personal profiles.
Your personal profile must have Admin level permission to install a campaign to a Page.
Do not create a fake personal profile to manage your Pages. Doing so violates Facebook’s Terms of Use. Facebook will shut down this profile when they discover it, which means you’ll lose access to your Page(s) and your campaign(s).
If you don’t follow these steps, we’re going to have problems. And you don’t want there to be any problems, do you?
Do Not Use a Facebook Business Account to Manage Your Page
If you do not have a personal Facebook profile and create a Facebook Page, or if you create a Facebook Page without first logging in to your personal profile, you’ll be prompted to create a limited-permission account so that you can log in to the new Page later. These accounts are called business accounts. The "business account" name is unfortunate because it reinforces the false assumption that you need a business account to manage a business Page. It’s better to think of business accounts as "limited accounts". These limited accounts are not personal profiles and are not compatible with ShortStack. If you suspect you have a business account you can check by doing the following:
- Go to Facebook and log in to your account.
- If you only see Settings and Log out in the top right of the Page, then you are using a business account. Otherwise, you are using a personal account.
If you find that you are using a business account, you need to add your personal profile as an admin and begin using that personal profile to manage the Page instead. Facebook has help on how to do this right here.

Facebook has many help topics on Pages. Here is a list of the more common questions we get asked about managing Facebook Pages:
- How do I add other admins to my Facebook Page?
- How do I change the order of views and campaigns that appear below my Page’s cover?
