Overview
The Upload Field is a standard field that allows entrants to upload different types of media. It allows for multiple uploads (per your plan allowance) and the ability to import videos and photos from different social media platforms.
Getting There
In the Campaign Builder, drag and drop the Field Widget into a Form Container. In the pop-up, select Upload, located in the Standard Field list. Click next.
Field Settings
Text
This is where you would assign any Label (dropdown layout only) for your upload field.
Validation
If you'd like your field to be required, you'd check the Required field box in this area. Clicking on the Show advanced options link will give a couple additional choices; whether you want the field to always be required, or only required when the field is visible.
In addition to the field requirement, you can edit the following upload field requirements:
- Maximum attachments allowed - Enter the number of attachments an entrant can add per entry.
- Minimum image width - Enter the minimum width in pixels. This is helpful to prevent low-quality and small images.
- Maximum file size - Enter the maximum file size. Your plan level also dictates this, but the maximum file size for any ShortStack user is 500MB.
Error Messages
To customize any error messages triggered by your new field, simply add your custom message to the appropriate field.
Content
This section is where you select the types of media and/or social media uploads allowed.
Files are uploaded by the user from their local storage drive. These are the following file types ShortStack offers:
- .jpeg
- .png
- .gif
- videos - This option includes MP4, MPEG, WMV, MOV and other common video file types.
Note: Video formats are allowed on the Pro Plan.
- Custom File Extension - If you want to have a media type that is not in the above selection, you can add your own here. Remember to add a period . before the file type.
Note: Only video, photo GIF and PDF formats can be viewed in the Entries Manager. You can still export custom files.
Online Videos allows for entrants to upload the URL of their video hosted on either YouTube or Vimeo. This is a great option if you have a Business Plan or the video file is too large to upload.
Social Media Posts are similar to online videos. Entrants upload the URL of either their Instagram post/reel or TikTok video, and the media and description are imported into the form.
Field Points
If you want the field to earn additional points for the entrant's uploaded media, you will set the number of points earned using this area.
Other
A couple of advanced options for your field are found in this area: text added to the Instructions field will appear below the field when it has focus (when it's selected). The Extra CSS classes field allows you to attach a CSS class (or multiple) to your new field so that you can change its appearance by targeting it with custom CSS code using the CSS Editor.
Visibility
If you'd like to limit the visibility of the upload field to a specific date and time, make the field a pop-up, only show the field in your Builder, or limit in which country/countries the field can be seen; you'd do so in the Visibility section. More information about these settings can be found in the Widget Visibility help doc.
